Choral Speaking (Inter-SBP) at Sekolah Menengah Sains Kuala Selangor (KUSESS)

I'm Sorry because this post is a bit long . hope you guys will not get bored. ☺️

I was doing my homework at my dorm when Iffah came and asked me to join a choral speaking competition. Actually, I was a day late to join them so I was worried about the acceptance of other members. But with Iffah’s support, I joined and pushed aside all my negative thinking. They are all my batch mates so why not? My first practice was on 13ht April, at night. I felt lost because I needed to catch up with the intonation which, I didn’t even know how heheh.

The very last day of practice was really unforgettable. We were given a big and sad test. First, Madam said that the competition's rules had been changed which only 25 people are allowed for each team. At first, the rules said that each group must have 30 people. And all of us had a conflict about who is going to let go of the performance.

Second, the boys from my batchmates did not really support us. Plus, they keep saying that we were not going to win. Well, actually we didn’t really care about those criticisms. We can’t shut people’s mouth, right? ☺️ (trying to be positive)

The third one was the worst. Basyira, our conductor, accidentally ate something that maybe she is allergic to. Her eyes were swollen and she needed to go to the clinic. No one can guarantee if she will be okay for the next day. It was a day before the competition. Hence, we had to continue our practice with a very last minute change. We needed to prepare with a new conductor. It was hard but at least we’ve tried. With tears running down our cheek, we made the last practice and Cikgu Fuad gave some motivational talk to us so that we did not give up. We took all the challenges we go through as a spirit for us to get Platinum Award.

17 April 2018 After Subuh, we gathered at the lobby. Out of the blue, Basyira came that early morning. Luckily we brought her attire. I was so relieved and touched because even when she’s sick, she came through to join and conduct us in this choral speaking competition. All of us were in a very good mood 😄. We had a practice on the bus (not in the position of course) before all of us fell asleep.

We arrived at Kuala Selangor Science School (Kusses) where the competition held. After finishing our breakfast, we were told to wait at the hall. Their hall, dining hall, and koperasi are totally different from Integomb’s. Kusses has a garden in which they are separated into 4 parts with the same area for each rumah sukan. They’re gorgeous and some of them are creatively decorated. I wish Integomb have this kind of garden too lol hahaha.

Okay, back to our main topic. 13 schools took part in this competition. Well, all of them looked very confident. This competition was organized by Universiti Malaysia Terengganu. The theme was ocean due to the World Ocean Week.

Certain of us met our old friend. It was fun and we were able to get more friends from other schools. We support each other although we were from different schools. It was our turn and we, the representatives from Integomb, with a high spirit, step onto the stage and performed confidently. We’ve watched the previous schools' performances and they were all great. So we must be confident and do our best to beat them. After our performance, all of us sigh with relief and pray for a good result. We’ve tried our best.

We had our lunch and Zuhur then returned to the hall. Before they announce the winner, the organizer gave a talk about the ocean. The closing ceremony began and the winner has been announced. Integomb is in 5th place, Silver Award. This Silver Award we had for 4 days practice + the last minute change + the challenges we’ve been through.  This Silver Award we’ve achieved will prove that we can stay strong and did our best in the competition.

After taking some pictures (using our iPads), we head back to Integomb. It was a long journey though.

We were all exhausted but elated. We’ll miss our practice, our tears together, our support to each other and of course the day of the competition itself. All of us were very tired once we head back to our dorm. That’s all, sorry if this post is boring and please correct me my bad grammar. Thank you :-)
